We have chosen and reserved the date for Drewstock for 2012. The event will be held on Saturday August 25th at the Quarry Beach Hideaway in Wind Gap, PA. Mark your calendar now, save it in your PDA! We are planning a different sort of event this year. Instead of the at least 8 hour long show, we are planning to have five bands for six hours with five hours of music. We plan to hold it during the daytime so if you have night time activities planned you can still make it to those events.

In addition to the music Quarry Beach Hideaway offers swimming, game room, volleyball and other outdoor activities. Bring the family and enjoy the afternoon.

AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS
We believe it is important to understand Autoimmune Disorders to understand how your body can attack itself and cause some Thyroid Disorders. The Thyroid Gland is part of the Endocrine system within your body. The Endocrine System controls many body functions. The Pituitary Gland, Thyroid Gland, Pancreas, and Reproductive Organs are all part of the Endocrine System. Some Thyroid Disorders are classified as Autoimmune Disorders or may be caused by them. Thyroid Disorders do not cause Autoimmune Disorders. There are over 100 Autoimmune disorders. Autoimmune disorders are diseases caused by the body creating auto-antibodies that attack its own tissues. In autoimmune disorders the immune system ceases to recognize one or more of the body’s normal constituents as “self” and will create auto-antibodies that attack itself. This causes cell, tissue or organ damage and leads to autoimmune disorders.

Autoimmune disorders fall into two general types: those that damage many organs "systemic autoimmune diseases" and those where only a single organ or tissue is directly damaged by the autoimmune process "localized". The most common diseases you may recognize are Crohn's Disease, Type I Diabetes, Addison's Disease, Lupus, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Lyme Disease, Graves Disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Juvenile Diabetes, Rheumatic Fever, Thyroiditis, Fibromyalgia and many more. THYROID STORM
A Thyroid Storm is sudden extreme over activity of the thyroid gland. Anyone experiencing the symptoms should know that this is a life-threatening emergency. A Thyroid Storm can cause death within 72 hours of contracting the condition within the body. All body functions are accelerated to dangerously high levels. Severe strain on the heart can lead to a life-threatening irregular heartbeat, extremely fast pulse, and shock. Thyroid storm may also cause fever, extreme weakness, restlessness, mood swings, confusion, altered consciousness, or an enlarged liver. A Thyroid Storm is generally caused by untreated or inadequately treated hyperthyroidism and can be triggered by infection, injury, surgery, poorly controlled diabetes, pregnancy or labor, or other medical stresses. A Thyroid Storm can occur when drugs being used to treat thyroid problems are stopped. Thyroid Storms are rare in children. People experiencing symptoms of a Thyroid Storm should seek medical help immediately. This is a life threatening condition. Earlier in the 19th century, the mortality rate of a thyroid storm approached 100%. However, today, with the use of aggressive therapy, the death rate from thyroid storm is less than 20%. The key to surviving is seeking help as soon as any of the symptoms appear.

THYROID AND PREGNANCY
During pregnancy, thyroid hormone is very important for the baby to develop normally. While it is rare, fetal and neonatal death is often due to hypothyroidism in their mothers. Further, it appears that the rate of miscarriage is higher in mothers that are hypothyroid during their pregnancy.

HYPOTHYROIDISM
A condition where the thyroid gland is under active and doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormone. Treatment requires taking thyroid hormone pills. The diagnosis of hypothyroidism is made most often by increased levels of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). The upper normal limit of TSH is the subject of considerable controversy. As a result, the TSH normal range limits, as determined from national databases, have not yet been uniformly applied to clinical practice. This study looked at whether the levels of TSH changed according to age groups and ethnic groups.

GOITER
A thyroid gland that is enlarged for any reason is called a goiter. A goiter can be seen when the thyroid is overactive, under active or functioning normally. If there are nodules in the goiter it is called a nodular goiter; if there is more than one nodule it is called a multinodular goiter. Multinodular goiters are very common as we get older. Most function normally and do not require any treatment. Occasionally, multinodular goiters can enlarge and put pressure on structures in the neck, causing choking and difficulty swallowing. When that occurs, the usual treatment is surgery. Recently, some studies have suggested that large multinodular goiters can shrink if treated with radioactive iodine (RAI). Further, some studies have shown that the RAI can be more effective if the thyroid is turned on first by treatment with recombinant human TSH (rhTSH), a compound used in patients with thyroid cancer.

HYPERTHYROIDISM
A condition where the thyroid gland is overactive and produces too much thyroid hormone. Hyperthyroidism may be treated with antithyroid meds (Methimazole, Ptopylthiouracil), radioactive iodine or surgery.

GRAVES’ DISEASE
Graves’ disease is the most common form of hyperthyroidism in the United States. A mild anemia, with low hemoglobin levels, can sometimes develop in patients with Graves’ disease. A major symptom of anemia is fatigue, so this may play a role in the tiredness that some patients have when the Graves’ disease is active. The cause of this anemia is uncertain. The aim of this study was to determine how common it occurs and what might be the cause of anemia associated with Graves’ disease.

THYROID CANCER
After surgery, most thyroid cancer patients are treated with radioactive iodine (RAI) to destroy any remaining thyroid cells, both normal and cancerous. In order for the RAI to be effective, the patient’s TSH levels need to be increased to stimulate the thyroid cells to take up the RAI and be destroyed. There are two ways to increase TSH: 1) withdraw the patient from thyroid hormone (THW), making the patient hypothyroid for a short period of time or 2) use recombinant human TSH (rhTSH) to allow patients to stay on their thyroid hormone and avoid the short term hypothyroidism. Recently, smaller doses of I-131 have been used effectively with THW to destroy remaining thyroid cells in low-risk-patients with thyroid cancer.

HASIMOTO'S DISEASE
Hashimoto's disease, also known as Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease. Hashimoto's disease causes antibodies to react against proteins in the thyroid gland, causing gradual destruction of the thyroid gland itself stopping the production of natural thyroid hormones.

THYROID NODULES
A thyroid nodule is a growth of tissue or a fluid-filled cyst that forms a lump in the thyroid gland. Thyroid Nodules are very common. Although symptoms are not common, a nodule that is large enough may sometimes cause pain or hoarseness, or get in the way of swallowing or breathing. Thyroid Nodules can sometimes be cancerous. Thyroid cancer is found in about 8 percent of nodules in men and in 4 percent of nodules in women. Thus, about 90 percent of all thyroid nodules are benign.

CONGENITAL HYPOTHYROIDISM
Newborn babies who are unable to make enough thyroid hormone have congenital hypothyroidism, meaning they are born with an underactive or absent thyroid gland. If the condition is not found and treated, children
can have mental retardation and growth failure. But the good news is that early diagnosis and proper treatment can prevent these problems. In most cases, the condition is permanent and your child will need lifelong treatment.

THYROIDITIS
Thyroiditis is a general term that refers to “inflammation of the thyroid gland”. Thyroiditis includes a group of individual disorders that all cause thyroidal inflammation and, as a result, causes many different clinical presentations. For example, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. Postpartum thyroiditis, which causes transient thyrotoxicosis (high thyroid hormone levels in the blood) followed by transient hypothyroidism, is a common cause of thyroid problems after the delivery of a baby. Subacute thyroiditis is the major cause of pain in the thyroid.

For the third year in a row the annual Psycho Turkey Shoot has benefited Drewstock. All of us at Drewstock are extremely honored and grateful to all the people that volunteer their time and effort to make this event a success!

We have a lot to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving Day 2011. We thank WZZO for all their ongoing support of Drewstock and their endless help in promoting our events. We thank Riverside Barr and Grill for hosting these events and their support for Drewstock. We thank the bar tenders, the bands, Jim Stocker and Off the Road, the Riverside help, Lisa and Amy, Laura Anthony, all of the people that came out and donated to this cause.

Drewstock raises money for education and research into thyroid disorders. Thyroid Disorders affect 4 billion people worldwide, 27 million in the US alone. About half of these people are undiagnosed. About 37 thousand new cases of Graves Disease are diagnosed each year in the US. These numbers are staggering and all the more reason to spread our message. Every year the proceeds raised from our events is donated to the American Thyroid Association and the Graves Disease Foundation. A very small portion of the funds are donated the Phillipsburg High School's Andrew Glackin Scholarship for the Performing Arts.

I don't know where to begin thanking everyone for helping us with this event. First and foremost, thank you to all of the people that came to this event to support this cause, made donations and enjoyed themselves.

Without all of the awesome entertainment; Heavy Road, Prankster, Scott Erickson, Mike Tremel, Lori Reitz Trio, 3, Stasis, Close to Consideration, Rahab X, Roman and The Heard and Jordan White there would be no event. This year we had very talented people on the stage. We got so many compliments on every band that performed, you should all know what great pleasure you brought to Drewstock. Thank you all for participating, we enjoyed every minute of it!!!

Al & the Ghost Invasion

Al and the Ghost Invasion is Alan Hertzog; a solo artist from the Lehigh Valley that writes and records several genres of music. He grew up in Emmaus, playing with some local bands after high school, and currently lives in New Smithville. He performs solo and with his band the Ghost Invasion. He enjoys writing and playing all the instruments and performing the vocals on his recordings. He has his own 32 track digital recording studio, named Neon Flamingo.

Al plays several instruments including, Guitars (Electric, Acoustic, Bass), Mandolin, Keyboard, Congas, Drums, and Percussive instruments. Al's current album / cd project is titled Never Ending. Al's live band consists of guest players. Not all of them live locally so a gig depends on who’s in town that evening, and is often an improv vs. a rehearsed performance. This is one of the reasons he included “ghost” in the band’s name. They play melodic rock, ballads, 60’s ,70’s and Al's originals.

Heavy Road is Greg Merritt - guitar and vocals, Ron Thaler - drums, Arthur Sadowsky - bass, Peter Remm - Keyboards

Greg Merritt along with Alex Garay and Dave Migliore founded the 90s psychedelic band Amorphous. Dave and Alex went on to form Catbootz, and later the jam scene phenomenon Buzzuniverse. Greg Merritt went on to form the band Good Friend with drummer Dan DeRienzo and bassist Rob Smith. The first release was the 7" vinyl record Out There/River, which received airplay at over 70 college radio stations around the country in 1995. Building on this success, Good Friend's debut CD Best Friend released in 1999 received airplay on over 250 college stations reaching number one on over a dozen stations. Greg Merritt is currently forming a new jam band to follow up on the release of his CD Dream Through A Leaf last spring which debuted at 21 on the jambands.com radio chart.

Michael Frank & Friends are Mike Frank, Eric Strasser, Steve Farrell, Mike O'Brien an original rock band from northwest New Jersey. Mike Frank & Friends' electric/acoustic blend of rock, alternative, modern rock, reggae, jam, jazz, blues, and bluegrass create a refreshingly new yet familiar style that is full of rhythm and melodies that are great for dancing and singing along to. Combined with their undeniable ability to play in the moment, their live performances include several improvisational jams which take every song to a different place each time. Listeners also get a glimpse inside the world of Mike Frank through his lyrics, as he poetically illustrates his observations of life, love, music, and the struggles within oneself.

Formed in the summer of 2008, the band was put together by Mike Frank with the intent to record an album of songs he had written and performed at a variety of Open Mics and jam sessions throughout northwest New Jersey, using his friends and fellow musicians to help record the album. After the completion of Yellow Rays, the band continued to play shows and write new music, building a solid local fan base, and subsequently becoming known as Mike Frank & Friends. Several tracks from Yellow Rays can be heard on several local college and public radio stations throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well a variety of music streaming sites, such as Last.fm, and the album can also be purchased for download at all major online web music outlets including iTunes, Amazon.com, and cdbaby.com.

Mike Frank & Friends continues to build their fan base throughout the tri-state area, and are currently in the studio, recording their sophomore album You Take The High Road, due to be released in 2011.

Lori Reitz Trio is a fairly new, power house and diverse trio, that is quickly making a name for themselves in the Lehigh Valley. The members consist of Lori Reitz - Lead and background vocalist, Craig Martin - Acoustic Guitarist/Lead and background vocalist, Jeff Fitzgerald- Keys/percussion.

They have played such establishments as Jack Callaghan's Ale House, Blue Monkey and several private parties and church festivals.

They can be seen at Fossils in Catasauqua coming up in August.

Prankster is Jeff Ganis on Guitar, The Famous Jimi Doran on Bass, Paul Francis Bergen on Drums, Wayne DeVincentz on Lead Vocals and recently added Billy Palleria on Lead Vocals.

Close to Consideration (CTC) from Mechanicsburg, PA is Chad Wright guitar, bass, vocals, Trace Morgan guitar, bass, vocals Austin Weaver drums. CTC is nfluenced by Green Day, the Beatles, Rancid, the Who, Sublime, Operation Ivy, Rise Against, Blink-182, Avenged Sevenfold, Johnny Cash.

CTC, three guys from Mechanicsburg who started jamming together in middle school. They write their own material as well as play covers for many venues including fundraisers, and hosted our own Wildcat Shamrock Benefit concert; Community Environmental Day, and clubs like The Champ, Lower Paxton Youth Center, Juice & Java, Hot Topic, and other local venues. Recently, we have released our first demo album called “Boredom in the Basement” which contains five of our favorite original tunes. Our newest single is a cover by Ray Charles “Hit the Road Jack”, recorded, mixed and produced in our own studio with our “signature CTC” spin.

CTC appeared recently on June 18, 2011 at Crock Rock in Allentown, PA along with Charetta, The Lost, Station, Odd One Out, and Empire Escorts. The music coming from these young musicians was amazing. Their on stage presence and ability to play mutiple instruments was very interesting to witness. We are excited to present Close to Consideration at Drewstock 5 on September 3rd, 2011!

Jordan White

Jordan White just earned "Band of the Week" in the Allentown Morning Call newspaper today June 11, 2011. Jordan White in his own words: The first "show" I ever played was at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem. That was of course, just an open mic. After spending a couple of years doing open mics I eventually started playing professionally, and now it's taken over my life. In a good way.

Singer/songwriter Jordan White has been playing lyrically-oriented acoustic & electric rock songs throughout the United States for the past six years, as a solo act and with full bands, both acoustic and electric. Originally from Cranford, NJ and then Nazareth, PA, he has received warm responses from audiences.

His music in his own words is Lyrical, thoughtful, sensitive, introspective. His influences include Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Adam Duritz. Jordan White is planning on recording a 3 or 4 song EP with producer Scott Tice at Dancing Pepper Studios this August. For this CD, they will probably re-record "September" and record newer tracks such as "Maybe, Amy" - "No Promises" and the fan favorite, ode to the bar scene, "Bloodshot." Jordan White opened for Third Eye Blind at Stabler Arena in November 1998. Since then he has played venues like Seacrets in Ocean City, MD and many local Lehigh Valley, Delaware Valley and New Jersey venues.

Jordan has been part of these groups, Insignia, 3 Sided Letters, Black & White Letters, Jaded Son, as duos with Robert Factor and Brian Kibler, The Fuzzy Bunny Slippers, Impostar, and of course, KineticBlu.

We are honored to have the opportunity to present Jordan White to you for the first time at Drewstock 5 on September 3rd, 2011.

Stasis

Stasis just celebrated their tenth anniversary! This all original rock band has also recently released it's second album "Believe". Stasis is vocalist Julia Glenn, guitarist Aaron Hallett, drummer Sean Montross, and bassist Chris Penyak. Stasis has been compared to such acts as Paramore and Evanescence, with twists of Metallica and Breaking Benjamin in the mix. By combining these influences, Stasis has an undeniably unique sound all their own.

Julia has been classically trained in theatre, dance, and singing since age 5. She has been involved in multiple plays, ballet, tap, and jazz performances, recorded with r&b groups, landed solo vocal performances in diocesan and state choirs, sang the national anthem countless times including most recently as for the Lehigh Valley semi-pro baseball team The Iron Pigs. Julia took piano lessons for ten years and her musical background only lend compliment to her powerful, yet angelic vocal talents. Julia's amazing lead vocals set this band apart from the others, in their class.

Sean has been apart of Stasis since it's infancy, and along with Aaron, helped establish the group as it is today. Sean is a "self-taught" drummer. In addition to amateur Pan Flute performances, Sean plays Tama Drums with a Chad Smith signature Pearl snare, Sabian AAXplosion Cymbals and uses Vic Firth drum sticks. Sean's talent as a drummer is certainly heard in their music.

Aaron has been honing his craft since his days in junior high; bringing his mix of metal, grunge, and funk to many axes. Aaron likes face melting/blistering solos, leaving listeners wanting the next edgy lick. In addition, Aaron is currently finishing up a Masters degree in Music Education.

Chris Penyak joined Stasis full-time in January, 2010. Prior to this he had played bass in now-defunct Lehigh Valley local band Solace since it’s inception in late 2003 when the band was known as Heart of Walls. He is also "self taught" and has been playing since 1999. Before 2003 Chris played in a high school cover band called Paradox, where he played bass and sang lead vocals.

In 2009 they performed with acclaimed artists Puddle of Mudd and Trapt at Bethlehem PA’s Musikfest. In addition, they performed with acts like Andrew W.K., Eve 6, Toby Keith & Trace Adkins and more! Past performances include the Vans Warped Tour in 2008, the 2008 New Music Seminar at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as previous sets at Bethlehem PA’s Musikfest. They performed at 95.1 WZZO’s Backyard Bands Showcase two years in a row. In the past Stasis has been booked to play with such acts as Breaking Benjamin, Long Beach Short Bus (formerly Sublime), Bret Michaels of Poison, Saving Jane, and Karate High School. They’ve performed at many well known venues including New York City’s “The Knitting Factory”, Philadelphia’s “Grape Street Pub” and “The Khyber”, Allentown PA’s “Crocodile Rock Café”, Wilks-Barre PA’s “Staircase Lounge”, and the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg PA.

These four musicians together have produced music you have to hear to believe, no pun intended! If you have never heard Stasis perform, go see them, go to their website, buy their CD. You won't be disappointed. Stasis was supposed to perform at Drewstock 2010, but the unfortunate power outage cut the show short of them taking the stage. We are thrilled to have them back in 2011. At Drewstock 5 you will get to experience this amazing talent for yourself.

3 - three men G Grillo, Barry Crow, Rob Bob Guida that light up the stage with their rock and roll. Why the name 3? They will tell you "it's a magical number". Hailing from the Poconos in PA this bands' influences include The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Black Crows, Pearl Jam, Cracker, Radiohead, Soul Coughing, Rolling Stones, Live, Lenny Kravitz, Alice In Chains and others. If you like to dance, this band is for you they will make your feet happy.

The Silos release new CD Florizona

I want to thank Walter Salas-Humara for sending me a copy of the newest Silo's release Florizona. It is an amazing CD and I am also happy to see that the band was able to move on after the tragic death of Drew Glackin. While the album has a familiar beat and sound, we all still miss Drew and his art of music. Check out this new album; many musicians play a part on this new CD.

New Silos album FLORIZONA being manufactured. The album is dedicated to the amazing life, extraordinary times, and everlasting memory of Drew Glackin. The band will play several shows at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.

Roman and The Heard

The Heard is the collection of NYC musicians; Bobby Radcliff, Roman, Allan Otto, and Jean Carno hanging out at Otto's Shrunken Head at 14th & Av A. The Heard is comprised of many guests, some from the old CBGB's scene, some, like blues great Bobby Radcliff, just pro's who live nearby. Some are famous, some not. Some are just not famous yet!

Roman has graced the stage of Drewstock 2008 and 2009 with his exciting Kind Of Blues band and his amazing guitar talent. We are excited to have Roman back at Drewstock 5 with Roman and The Heard!

Roman has performed with many artists including Pat Martino, Sister Sledge, Blues Traveler. He played a part in these groups; I'd Rather Be Dead, Signal to Noise, The Fux, The Clap, The Blues Sisters, Mad Dog and Blues Night Out, Kind of Blue, Scotty and the Slammers, and currently Roman and The Heard.

Scott Erickson

For the past 18+ years, Scott has been working as a musician. He's done studio work & played live all over the Northeast. For the last two years Scott has volunteered his time to be a part of Drewstock events. In 2011 we will also have the opportunity to listen to Scott Erickson at Drewstock 5.

Scott Erickson is a one man band from Danville PA and is the owner of Scott Erickson Music, LLC. He has been performing professionally for over 15 years. He became an official "business entity" in January, 2009. Scott Erickson covers everything from the Beatles to Pink Floyd. He has opened for The Bacon Brothers (actor Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael), classic rock icons, Blue Oyster Cult, and comedians "Big" Jay Oakerson, Tom Rhodes, and the legendary Gilbert Gottfried. He has also performed with former Paul McCartney sideman Robbie McIntosh, and Hamish Stuart (who has also worked Ringo Starr), Country Music superstar Keith Urban, and most recently jammed with legendary rock & roll band, The Smithereens.

He has been a member of several bands: The Rumble Cats, and Circle Sky (which played in Philadelphia, New York, and Chicago, from the summer of 1994 until the winter of 1996). In the fall of 1998, the band reunited under the name The Impossibles and opened for Gary Lewis & The Playboys and Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon. He was one of the founding members (as bassist and occasional lead vocalist) of one of the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania’s favorite bands, The Aardvarks from their earliest incarnations in late 2002, until January of 2004. He was featured vocally, as well as on lead, rhythm, acoustic, electric & bass guitars in perennial Lehigh Valley favorites, Redz Vision, as well as a member of The Infamous Hogleg Boys.

We are still working towards producing Drewstock 5 at Quarry Beach Hide-Away in Wind Gap, PA. Please mark you calendar now for September 3rd, 2011 event!

Drewstock raises money for thyroid disorders. All of the proceeds from our fund raising events benefit the American Thyroid Association, the Graves Disease Foundation and the Andrew Glackin Scholarship for the Performing Arts. Drewstock is a 501c3 charity, all donations are federal tax deductible.

Drewstock 5 is being planned for Quarry Beach Hide-Away in Wind Gap, PA. This event will be held on September 3rd, 2011 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Sign up for the 2nd Annual Drewstock Rock n Ride sponsored by Snap Fitness.
